Covid-19: The Force Of Change

If you are used to traveling a lot while living your full time RV or van life, you are probably well aware of what happens when you sit in one place very long.

For us, the "I need change now!" bug hits at about day five of being somewhere. We start getting restless and irritable. The kids get bored and complain more. It's stressful on all fronts.

RV Life Stress

Enter winter. With an older rig, we had to find somewhere warm enough to boondock for winter where running electric heaters twice a day would provide enough heat for us, as we have no propane in our rig.

So here we sit on Vancouver Island, loving where we have landed, but growing more restless by the day, and longing to be exploring again.

I am still like any other mother out there, questioning constantly if I'm making good decisions, or the right ones, for my children and so on. To be honest, with Covid-19, I'm glad I am able to unschool my little men so I know they are safe at home with my husband and myself.

RV Life, Unschooling

Everything has changed so quickly in such a short time for everyone! For us, February was a five bedroom, two bath house with a huge yard, two full time jobs, hot water, side hustles in the works. Come mid March it was both of us laid off, government funding taking its time, and my kids (3.5 and 4 at the time) thinking they did something wrong because they didn't get to see their friends anymore. By June, it was "I sold the house you're living in.", us selling all of our belongings, moving into a 34 foot motorhome, and setting out with a hope and a prayer.

It took three short months to completely undo the three years we had built as a life in that town for our children. At the time we were excited about the unknown, but it does wear on a person constantly moving around, no security for your kids or yourselves, never knowing where you are going to sleep etc.

Don't get me wrong, we love the lifestyle, but I find myself most every night feeling like my kids don't deserve this--like they deserve stability, a school, friends, to see, grow and learn with kids their age. It's different if you have no children. I'd imagine it to be a dream life, but I'm a mom, and I worry.

Covid-19 has truly forced change on everyone whether they wanted it or not.
