Many people look at photos before setting out and think, "I'm going to set up like that and have all that stuff too."
We weren't exempt from that. We used to see photos and videos of luxurious outdoor spaces and think we would some day be boondocking in style too, complete with patio furniture, throw pillows, snuggly blankets, a pull down screen and projector for outdoor movies, and twinkle lights.
That would be amazing...if you never move your rig or travel anywhere. Reality hits when your fantasies come with a strong dose of "where am I going to put all that when I travel".
We chose this life to get out and see things, not to stay in one place forever and acquire more "stuff" that we worked so hard to pare down and purge in the first place.
Even if you find space to put it all for travelling, what happens when you spend one or two nights somewhere and your rig looks like a storage unit? How do you get to your bed, cook, or use the bathroom?
We learned so early on that less possessions creates more value in life. Without so many things and so much stuff to clean up, move, take care of, and distract us, we had much more quality time as a family...for our family.
We go out and find adventures--we make fun and create games everywhere we go. Even walks to the grocery store come with fun-filled games of red light green light, don't step on the wet spots, getting the bad guys, and embracing curiosity and conversation about the world around us.
When it does come to relaxing, we have ample snuggly spots inside our rig, and a quaint outdoor area with fold out chairs and an outdoor mat, where we can play TV or movies off our phones, sit and talk, or share a laugh.
What more could we possibly need? We are together and healthy.
