RV Life: "Homeless" By Choice

"Let's live full time in a tiny home."
"I would never fit in a tiny home. I'm too tall."
We laughed. We joked. Now, years later, we live full time in a thirty-four foot motorhome with no slides, and no bedroom of our own.

"Why would anyone ever make the choice to live like that?"
"What about your kids? At least give them a fighting chance."
"Let's shoot the homeless."
Comment after comment has come in since we started living this way, and comment after comment has rolled off our backs until one day, I started second guessing everything too.
"Is this the life I really want?"
"Didn't I see a different life for my kids?"
"I don't feel safe sending them to school with Covid-19, but I so badly want them to go."
No mother's decision is ever easy. Decisions are hard in general, but when your children are involved, choices can seem almost impossible. In the end, you need to make choices and pray they are the right ones.

Do I see myself RVing forever? Absolutely not. Am I grateful that we chose this? Every single day! You see, nothing has to be forever, but without experiences, how would anyone ever know if they are truly happy with their lives? I have learned so much about myself, our family, and a whole area I once knew nothing about, because we made a decision.
No, we are not homeless. We live in a motorhome, by choice. No one forced our hands into this lifestyle. No one said, "You have no choice." The choice was very much ours to make.
We knew things wouldn't always be easy. We knew the stereotypes we would get, the looks, the comments. It didn't bother us because we, as human beings, are in full control of our lives.

When you got your current job, or house, or even the clothes you are wearing, did you go out and choose them? This is no different. Every single choice carries with it a whole world of other things. You trust that the person who built your house has built it well and that it's safe. You trust your job will pay you when there is money owed to you, and you trust that your clothing will hold up and serve their purpose.
Well, we trusted that our new lifestyle would lead us places we wouldn't have otherwise got to see, and that even through struggles or hard times, we would grow as people and strengthen our family bond by being together.

Trust in your choices. Trust in what you want and what you believe, because at the end of the day, you live with yourself. Your friends, parents, cousins, strangers on the street--they're not the ones climbing into bed with you every night (usually haha), and they're not the ones living your life.
Even if you make choices that you end up hating, at least they are yours to make. The human heart and soul is so much stronger than it's ever given credit for. Trust yours.
