As I sit here writing this at 2:30 in the morning, I glance over at my sleeping little boy next to me and think, "Everything happens for a reason." If he would have slept through the night and not been hungry, I wouldn't be writing this post right now, nor would I have had a chance to steal extra cuddles or to sit and contemplate parenthood.

You see, I realized a long time ago that every single thing in my life led me to where I am now for one reason or another. Sometimes it is a lot more difficult to know what those reasons are, or to even believe where you are has a purpose in your life, especially during difficult times.
Tonight when my son got up, I was exhausted and frustrated, and I found myself feeling angry towards him for not sleeping. Then I thought, "How many nights have I been unable to sleep?" No one got mad at me for that, so why would I expect my sweet boy to be treated any differently than I am?

Oftentimes it is very difficult to remember that my children literally learn everything from my husband and myself. Every single good or bad behaviour is the result of something our children have heard or observed from us.
I find it hard sometimes while things are being thrown at me, or little hands are shoving or punching me, but in the end I know it was what my child needed to release what was inside.

I've learned from my children in ways I could have never imagined. I've learned even through anger and frustration, there is always love. I've learned that when someone has a beautiful heart, natural, unplanned love and acts of kindness pour out of it. My children have taught me that fear is learned, not borne. They have shown me that complaining and whining do not gain you respect, and that those who do it choose to be unhappy. Above all else, my children have shown me that this world is meant to be explored and enjoyed--not merely observed in photos and videos on tv.
This is why my family is setting out on an adventure to help those around us. When my husband first started The Pyhooya Project, it was a third attempt in our six years together to find a way to give back to others without breaking the bank. Our goal for years has been to immerse our children in the world through giving and selfless acts of kindness. We just had to find a way to make this possible.
