Stress, Noise and Overwhelm

The clouds drifted softly over the trees and mountaintops. Birds of many species sweetly sang their morning songs. The dew covered grass shimmered in the crisp air that surrounded me.

I took a deep breath in, embracing all the sights and smells around me. In that moment, I felt completely and utterly at peace--pure freedom.

4 nut in a shell, breathe

Sometimes all it takes is noticing the things around you, embracing their beauty, and breathing to return to a sound mind.

Whether you live in a house, an RV, or otherwise, everyone feels overwhelmed by stress, emotions, or tasks they wish to finish at some point. For some, that overwhelm comes every day. For others, it's not as prevalent.

Taking a moment to step back, step outside, or place yourself on the outside looking in can make all the difference, and can completely change how the rest of your day is going to go.

step back, 4 nuts in a shell, calming down

I've even explained to my four and five year old when they get mad or frustrated and need to take some time to calm down, that mommy and daddy feel that way too.

Living full time in an RV ensures you have no personal space unless you walk away. It ensures everyone knows everyone's business and that nakedness (emotional or otherwise) is just a part of life and of being.

It's definitely a love/hate relationship sometimes, but I had that in our large sticks and bricks house as well. Every experience and every single moment of your life is going to be as happy or unhappy as you make it. It's all about your mindset.

4 nuts in a shell, finding emotional freedom

I'm not afraid to say it. My kids are the source of ninety percent of my stress and frustration. They are loud, in your face, rude, aggressive, push me past my breaking point every...single...day, and have zero independence at their ages!

They are also sweet, cuddly, giggly, smart, thoughtful, beautiful little boys that I am truly blessed to have in my life. Sometimes it does get very difficult to see the beauty through the screaming, fighting, punching, breaking things etc, and that's okay.

4 nuts in a shell, turbo nut, mighty nut

I am far from being a perfect mother or wife. My children and husband see all of my emotions. I hide nothing. Many times I have wished I had better "control" of my emotions. I'd rather my kids grow up knowing it's human to feel than to grow up thinking they have to poker face their way through life.

That's no way to live. It eats you up inside. I used to be that way.

release emotions, let yourself feel

So next time you are facing a difficult day, a stressful situation, or a daunting task, first step outside and take time to breathe and center yourself, or stand, close your eyes and picture your stress slowly sliding down you from head to toes until it's gone.

No one benefits from a cranky, crabby, overwhelmed, stressed, emotional family member--least of all you.
